Today, I am going to try to type an email that Daniel sent to several people when he was still at UNT. It is long, I hope I make it all the way through it. It is entitled: I'm Tired....
My Wednesday actually started on Tuesday at 2:45PM when I dragged myself out of bed. I had to get up and go to school because I had put off coding a major program and it was due on Wednesday. I had not started on it at all. It was crunch time and I was being crunched. So I made my way to Denton and finally arrived there around 4:30.---
I was completely starting from scratch on this program and it was slow going, especially at first. I worked on it through the night. I was kicked out of two computer labs (they closed at different times), and I was forced to relocate to the Willis Library lab. It's midnight now and a new day. I was not alone in my procrastination it seems. The lab was packed and I had to wait 20 minutes for a computer. But, I finally secured a workstation and began to work at a slower pace than before. You see the computers in the Willis Lab were not 100% compatible with the computers in the other labs. So it took a long time to relearn how to use the software...it was a pain. But finally at 2AM I figured out the commands and at 3:30 I was outside doing cartwheels and handsprings because I had gotten the last major piece to run correctly. It was beautiful. I ran back inside to the Library and finished up the program and had my next big dilemna.---
You may be asking yourself: What is there to do in Denton at 4AM? Well, the answer is....not much. I had decided on eating at IHOP and staying in Denton until my classes began, when I realized I had yet another project due in another class. And the only way to get it done was in my house at my computer. So I 86ed the IHOP notion, microwaved a Jumbo Jack (at 7-11) I hadn't eaten since earlier in the day and went back to Fort Worth to start my next project. I took I35 all the way there, and passed the Texas Motor Speedway, passed Alliance Airport, passed it all at a nice 70 mph. I arrived at Fort Worth around 5:30AM and began doing my 2nd project. It was database related too, but it was nothing. I had finished in less than 2 hours, time to head back ot Denton. I took I35 all the way there, passed Alliance Airport, passed the Texas Motor Speedway, all at a nice 70mph. I arrived in Denton an hour early. I did this so that I could insure that my program would compile on the correct machine and to print out my program and my output. I sealed the source code, the output, and the disk containing the program in a manilla envelope. It was beautiful. So I walk in to class (the first one there) and I just sort of laugh to myself, thinking to myself; "Your are right on top of things, Daniel! You rock! You're right Daniel, I do rock...but you are very attractive. Not as attractive as you, Daniel. Oh come on Daniel, you're just saying that. Hey guys, what about me? Oh Daniel, everyone knows you're the funny one. He's right, Daniel you are pretty funny. But I'm not attractive. Nope only Daniel has the looks around here. Speaking of Daniel, has anyone seen the others..." all the time I was rocking back and forth, my head was twitching, and I was laughing a low constant laugh. Almost like a sigh, but a laugh. And then someone came in and I told the Daniels to shut up. As I looked around I noticed that noone was apparently prepared for today. My program was already out and poised to hand in. And it seemed like I was the only one. Then a young lady with a decorative eyebrowring(this is really a word?) came in about 7 minutes before class. She too had her program and was telling her neighbor that she finally got it to run. Then her neighbor said, "Oh, he pushed it back till Friday."
When I came to, the professor was lecturing on MultiDimensional Arrays. And it seemed that the Eyebrowring's neighbor told the truth. The box that you normally hand in homework was not there.
Deep inside me I heard a scream of agony, fear, pain and terror echo throughout my mind. It seems that one of the Daniels was paying for his mistake. So I took the rest of the class time to reflect and grabbed about thirty minutes of nap. Next class was interesting (Business Law) and I stayed up for that one. Then I had an hour before my next class and was trying to get some sleep when a really beautiful Dentonite sat beside me. I remember hearing somewhere that guys are cuter when they are unconcious. So I sat with my eyes closed for most of the hour wondering if my ploy was working. But then I really fell asleep and when I woke up there was a name and phone number in my hand (JOY!)...but then I woke up for real this time and the girl was gone (SORROW!). So apparently if you like a girl, just falling asleep in front of her is not a good enough come on. Women! What do they want?
So, my next class was Management and I grabbed enough sleep to boost up the total to an hour and a half. Then I had a four hour break with which I ate, improved upon the program, turned it in early, and met with my good friend, Taylor. Then I went to my last class that starts at 6:30 at night. It is scheduled to run till 9:30, but usually lasts till 8. But on that day we got our grades and took a quiz and handed in a project. Up until that point I had 632.5 and to get an A I needed a 675. 42.5 points away. The quiz that we took that day was worth 50. If I missed 3 questions...I would get an A on the course and not have to take the Final. But if I missed more than 3...then I have to take the Final. Keep in mind the Final is on a Saturday (should be illegal). So I am taking the quiz and I am feeling ok about it...not great, but ok. I keep a record of my answers on another sheet and after everone is done, she goes over the answers and I check them, they total 5 missed questions (SORROW!) But then, she says, "Everyone gets a two question bonus" (JOY!). I don't have to take the final!!! I am right on 675...on the money. So she lets me and the other happy non-finalists leave and I am on my way home. At a mere 7:30 I leave for Fort Worth.
I coast down the highway happy as a clam, because I will get to see 7 of 9 (Jerry Ryan). She is this super goodlooking Borg-Human on Star Trek Voyager. I'm laughing down the highway thinking, "I'm not tired", but I should be. In hindsight I should of kept my thoughts to myself (I mean...nevermind!) I drive down I35. I can see Texas Motor Speedway in the distance. There is a big rig pulling to the right for some reason. I slow down a little to pass the trailor, when FLASH! A huge black tire is right in front of me standing straight up and it appears to be coming right for me (but I was probably heading straight for it). I saw the tire when it was about five feet in front of my car. About half a second before I hit it. I remember thinking, "uh-oh". and then SMASH right into the thing going at least 65mph. When I hit the tire, probably off a Caterpillar or Tractor, it initally went under my car and pushed my front end in the air about 6 feet and my back end about 3 feet. The force of the impact pushed the tire out and since I was on the brakes the tire rolled out in front of me while I was in the air. Then my front end hit the ground and bounced back up and my back end did the same. My car bucked a few more times and finally came to a stop on a bridge (which I thought I was going to jump over). Then I thought to myself: "Now, I am tired". I was on all four tires and couldn't believe it. I thought again: Now, I am tired.
I would have been just as happy to read this on Daniel's page.
