Nothing?

The next time you ask our mother what she wants for her birthday, Christmas or Mother's Day and she replies; "nothing", do not believe her. She has told everyone in the family this past few days that she received a birthday gift from all her children but two. Of course one of them was Patrick, and then she says; "guess who the other one is". I think she is trying to put me on a guilt trip. I keep thinking about all the times she said she wanted nothing and now I am thinking what else has she been lying about! I know she lied about labor pains. She said it didn't hurt. (while labor pains do hurt, and it hurts alot, all memory of the hurt fades completely when you first see that beautiful bundle of joy). Meanwhile, back to the topic at hand...I finally give mother what she wanted for her birthday and she doesn't seem too happy with it. Then I remember some of the gifts I purchased for her and she was delighted at receiving them. In the future, no matter how many times she tells me she wants nothing she is not getting it!!!

I find that's usually a good strategy to follow myself. No one who wants nothing gets it from me.

I am a little surprised that Tim got her a gift. What was it?

I've been saving up for a leopard-skin fur coat for her. Unfortunately, the cost of such a coat is probably going up faster than my saving rate.

Tim got her a peace lily. It wasn't doing too well, so she called a florist and was advised to soak the entire pot in water for 30 minutes. It perked up and is looking well again...she delights in telling that story.

Do you remember a couple of years ago....maybe four or five, when Mother received her wish from everyone of her children...and on Mother's Day, no less? I may be mistaken, but my recollection is that she received zero tribute that year. And, that is when she changed her long-held stance about wanting "peace and quiet".........in addition to the ubiquitous "nothing".
