I have now successfully completed I drive safely.com internet defensive driving course and scored 91% on my final exam. I needed to score at least 70%. I have been fretting over my need to take this course. I was issued a traffic citation in Houston during the weekend of the Cinco Ranch Triathlon. The ticket indicated that I was going 68mph in a 45 mph speed limit on Hwy 6. Even though the ticket was incorrect in both the posted speed limit and my alleged speed, I decided not to fight the ticket and take the course. I was going approximately 63 and the posted speed limit where I was stopped was 55. Ever since the judge granted my request to take the defensive driving in lieu of fines and to have the ticket dismissed, I have had it in the back of mind that I need to take care of this. I was granted 6 months...that expires on 06-03-03. I kept putting it off. Recently, I went to smartpages and got a list of defensive driving schools in Arlington. When I got around to calling the schools listed, I found that all of them had disconnected numbers. So, yesterday, I got online again and began googling for schools. I found one online, verified with the Texas Education Agency that they were a certified course and took the class online. It was so much better than having to spend 6 hours in a classroom with a bunch of people that I did not know. While I was taking my final exam I got a call from Kathleen. She told me that Matthew, her son, was taking defensive driving today as well. I am anxious to see how well he did on his final. I hope I do not get too preachy about other's driving habits, since I am a recent graduate of defensive driving.
Posted by Rita at March 22, 2003 12:28 PMI actually enjoyed the one defensive driving course I ever had to take. It was one of those comedy ones so not only was it informative, but it was also entertaining.
Another bonus for taking the course is a disount on your car insurance :-)
Congratulations on successful completion!

;-)
Posted by: Stepan at March 24, 2003 10:28 AMThat is so neat that you were able to take the course online. In the last ten yrs. or so I've received two speeding tickets. I had to take the defensive driving course both times.
Posted by: Theresa at March 25, 2003 12:26 AMTheresa, I doubt you HAD to take the DD course. You opted to take it to keep the ticket off your record and get a 10% reduction in your insurance rates...right?
Posted by: me at March 26, 2003 06:23 PMI took traffic school online as well. Mine was www.gototrafficschool.com It is amazing how internet becomes so convinient in everyday life. I really liked the defensive driving course online better than going to school and sit at the desk.
