I made dinner tonight after working a 10 hour day which does not include my 2 hour commute and my hour lunch. One of the things I made was dirty mashed potatoes. They were delicious. Certainly, it saved the step of peeling the potatoes. Yes I was being somewhat lazy. But I thought; I love eating the skins of baked potatoes, why not try dirty mashed pots? When I told Jerry what I was making he said, please do not call them that. It sounds disgusting. Which brings me to the other part of the meal. I also made hamburger soup. I remember one time Kathleen and I were going to make dinner for Barry and my current boyfriend Mike Kerkvliet. We remembered how much we loved hamburger soup when mother fixed it in our youth. Well, they refused to eat something called hamburger soup. So we said ok, we will fix something else. What we did is fix hamburger soup, but called it something else. Shakespear certainly knew what he was talking about when he wrote that "Romeo, Romeo" speech from Romeo & Juliet. They(Mike & Barry) loved it and so did Jerry. In fact, tonight Jerry had already eaten and was going to eat a very small portion of my effort. He went back for thirds.
Posted by Rita at September 17, 2003 08:28 PMI've been trying to convince you of the merits of dirty mashed potatos for years! I'm glad you've finally tried them. I love hamburger soup, but Stepan also thinks it sounds unappealing. Do you remember what you called it for Mike and Barry?
Posted by: Jfer at September 18, 2003 09:25 AMI think we called it hamburger surprise.
Posted by: me (aka Rita) at September 18, 2003 08:06 PMOoh. that sounds worse.
Posted by: Mermu at September 19, 2003 07:42 AMWell, my goodness! I found myself agreeing with Jerry and didn't much care for the idea of a food item whose descriptor is "dirty". Agree also with the decliners re hamburger soup. And, I agree with Meredith, also! Hamburger Surprise sounds awful -makes one leery about just what the "surprise" is.
