On Wednesday the CWA gave SBC thirty days notice of our intention to strike if negotiations between us do not improve. The primary contention is health benefits. If they have their way, we will no longer have these benefits. Our CEO, Ed Whitacre has become a very very wealthy man on the backs of all the loyal personel who are members of CWA. According to the link included within this entry, the company does not expect that we will strike. I will if we do not gain benefits as a result of our negotiations. Everyone I work with feels the same way. Did you hear that Ed?
Posted by Rita at April 9, 2004 09:36 PMI clicked on the Ed Whitaker link and posted a comment. If, it is to be believed Ed Whitaker Jr. has also posted a comment. If it really is Ed Whitaker's son, there is certaintly no love lost between them.
Posted by: Theresa at April 9, 2004 11:06 PMThe way I read the Forbes article, SBC says they expect to have the contract negotiated without you having to go on strike. I'm sure the credible threat of a strike helps forcing them make a good will effort in negotiations.
Let us know when we need to start looking at local phone alternatives to SBC...
