Joy

I have been very remiss in my postings. It has been said that since I now have a new grandchild, that I should be posting stories about her. I have found that I talk about her so much to anyone who will listen, that when I get on the computer, I cannot think of anything more to say. For example, I had to get maintenance work done on my company vehicle Tuesday morning. The battery was dead. The repair shop sent a lady to jump start my van. She was unable to get it to start, so she left and returned a bit later with a new battery. I helped her install it, and then she advised me that I should follow her to the shop, so testing could be done to be certain that there was nothing wrong with the electrical system. While we waited for the mechanic to run his tests we were chatting. In my coat pocket were two pictures of Magdalena. I had such a strong urge to take them out and show them to her. They were her 6 week old picture and her 7 week old picture.

When I was in Austin last, helping Jennifer with Magda so she could do some work from home, a few instances come to mind that make me smile. One of the mornings, Jennifer had fed Magda and I was holding her. Jennifer went to shower and dress for the day. Jennifer likes her long showers. Magda loves her mama. About 10 minutes after Jennifer went to shower, Magda began “asking” for her. I tried to explain that Jen would be back in a few minutes, but Magda would have none of it. So, we went into the bathroom. Almost as soon as we went into the bathroom, she quieted. I think she liked the warmth and the sound of the water running. I had her up on my shoulder and she started rooting around for something to go into her mouth. She ended up latching on to my cheek. I had Jen check for a hickey when she got out.

On the morning I left, I had packed my car and was saying good-bye to Magda and just delaying the separation. I was talking to her and she was cooing and smiling so hugely, that she almost laughed. She is so precious and brings so much joy to my life.

I used to like long showers too. The whole first year with Jonathan was a process for me of figuring out what I could jettison to shorten my get-clean time. Then, of course, as he got older I got more accustomed to having more time to spend in the bathroom . . . and now I am remembering all the shortcuts I took all over again with Kayleigh. I do admit that it's very nice having family here, because they play with Kayleigh while I indulge in a longer shower than normal. I'm making sure to take advantage of it while I can!

Now it sounds like you resisted the urge to show the pictures. You're a new grandma, if you're not entitled, then who is?!? I say give in to those urges. She's such a beautiful baby, who wouldn't want to shout about her from the rooftops?
