For Mother's Day Jen and Stepan surprized me with a webcam. I brought the box home and placed it in front of my computer desk. I let it sit there for a couple of days. Computing has become so easy. Instructions are so user friendly. Anyway, I installed the software for the webcam, being very careful to follow all the intstructions. And in a very short time I was rewarded with my smiling image waving back at myself. It was fun. It was cool. And then the really fun and cool thing happened. I received an invitation from Jennifer to join her in a live video chat. I accepted. And there was my baby girl and her baby girl. I also got to see Stepan as he tried to work out some of the bugs. After a while they excused themselves to bathe Magda. So, we said our goodbyes and I watched them leave the room. I left the image in place. It was a still picture of the door exiting their computer room. While I was surfing, I noticed movement on the webcam screen. It was Stepan. He was moving from the bathroom/bedroom area to the living/kitchen area. So, I waited with anticipation for him to return to the bathroom/bedroom. He did and came and went one more time. I was feeling a bit like a peeping tom, so I called and told Stepan that he should exit from the chat session, which he did. Our next webchat experience was a lot better. We used AIM to establish our connection. I agree with Jennifer regarding the size of the picture. That is another hurdle that we will have to conquer.
And, I have received two invitations from my favorite nephew-in-law, Dale. While I was able to see and hear him, he could only hear me on our first visit. However, tonight I received my second invite from him and we were able to see and hear each other. And Kayleigh waved at me and made animal sounds for me. I got to say good- night to both of them.
We should all get webcams. We may never have to travel to see each other again.
Posted by Rita at May 16, 2005 08:53 PMThat does sound like a great idea. But, if everyone gets a web cam aren't you a bit worried the KHH will go by the wayside? Not many people are posting on a regular basis anymore (myself included). At least I would get to see Kayleigh and Magda grow up right before my eyes.
