Sunday Morning

Mother and I were at the breakfast table and Mother told me about a dream she had recently. Here is what she told me:
I was at work at the Security Police at SAFB. I am on the 5th floor and working overtime. When it came time to go home, I discover all the stairs had been removed and the elevator was broken. I spent the rest of my dream trying to find a way out.
Mom also told me in reality, she never worked overtime and never worked on the 5th floor. So what do you guys think this dream means? I have a thought. I want to hear what your thoughts are before I share mine.

Last night Mother and I took Jerry out to dinner as a thank you for all the chores he has performed around my house. We had a lovely meal and a lovely time. Toward the end, Mother began the conversation with; "This sounds a bit morbid, but..." What she proposed is that, we, I beleive she was referring to the 8 offspring, have a pool. Kinda like the one when you guess the date of a baby's birth. Except this one would be to guess the date when Mother joins the dearly departed. So, what do you guys think about this?

I believe Mother is concerned about the “work” she has to do as our Mother to bring harmony among her children, specifically the upcoming week-end where Theresa’s sisters are reaching out to her as a sibling. I think she feels trapped because, although, she does not want to be included in the week-end in Lindale, she must remain behind, alone. To dream that she is at work signifies she is worried about some current problem or conflict and to dream that you are at your former or past work, suggests that there is an old lesson that you need to learn and apply to your current situation. (Only Mother would be able to analyze how this fits into the current situation.) Her current situation is bring the “5” of us together, which has already been planned; therefore, the fact that her dream places her on the “fifth” floor is totally understandable.

To Leah: Why did you remove your posted comment?

I didn't. I wonder where it went. In fact, I was unaware that postings could be removed.

This is a replaced comment since Rita deleted my first one in her quest to eradicate spam. First, Patrick and then Rita ..............
I thought that the fifth floor is symbolic of Mother's overall life and that her inability to get off the fifth floor is a metaphor for her longevity. Coupling Mother's dream with her suggestion that we siblings make book on her death-date indicates to me that she preoccupied, with anticipation, with the notion of her passing.

I'm not really sure what it means. I'm probably the worst when it comes to analysis and philosophy. I will make a comment on Leah's thought...I found it funny that Leah thinks Mother is looking forward to dying and can hardly wait for this to happen. The sad thing about the pool (if we do it) Mother won't know who won. Then again, I could be wrong about that, too.

I don't think that Mother is looking forward to dying - but that she is anticipating the event; at age 90, that is probably normal. And, while her conversation embraces the idea of death, have you noticed that she speeds to the doctor when she feels "funny?" As far as the pool is concerned, since it is Mother's idea, I think that she should stake it.
