Simone Milada

She arrived in the very early hours of Friday, August 15. Her great-grandma Lucio was born 95 years earlier. She is so sweet and gentle and lovely.

I arrived at Jennifer's house at about 1:15am on Friday. Stepan had called and said to come at about 10:20PM, Thursday. I rushed and sped and departed my house by 10:30 and tried to get there before they had to leave for the birthing center. When I arrived, lights were on, but there was no car in the drive. The front door opened and out walked Elizabeth. I was so happy that Elizabeth was there, cause that meant that Magda was there as well. Elizabeth told me that Step and Jen left around midnight. I had a newly opened, almost full bottle of wine. Elizabeth and I chatted and had a glass of wine til about 2:30. Elizabeth departed, I got ready for bed and decided that the best plan was to sleep in J & S's room so if Magda woke and came to their room it would not be empty. I got to bed at about 3am...at about 3:30am, I heard Magda's door open. A moment later, I heard Magda say; "Mamma?" I replied no, it is G. A brief moment of silence followed by wailing. Magda was almost inconsolable. Jen had already explained to her that I might be there instead...I reminded Magda of that. She tearfully agreed that I might be expected. I carried her to the living room. She was still so upset. We sat on the couch and I commented on her very pretty nightgown...immediately she stopped crying and told me her mom had bought it at Central Market. We chatted for a bit and decided to spend the rest if the night on the couch in the living room.

Jen called sometime later, and told me I had another granddaughter...I was so excited. I went back to sleep, kinda. I dreamt that Jen and Stepan called again and wanted me to bring Magda to the birthing center to meet her new sister. It felt real. It was still dark. I delayed. Magda was still sound asleep and I did not want to get up and out. I fretted that they were waiting for me...so at about 6, I called Jen and asked if they were serious about my waking Magda and coming so early. It was then that I realized I had dreamt the call. Damn, it felt so real.

At about 8, Magda woke and we started getting ready for the exciting day ahead of us. I had visions of frying an egg and making a english muffin egg sandwich for Magda. Magda had a different plan. She went to the pantry and pointed to a box of cereal...it was frosted flakes and that is what she wanted for breakfast. She wanted some in milk and some dry. She didn't focus on eating the wet flakes...about 10 minutes later she informed me they didn't taste very good anymore...they had gotten soggy.

I feel so grateful that I was able to be a part of this day. I got to take Magda to the Center to meet her sister for the first time. Magda picked out the dress she would wear and I put her hair in a pony tail. Finally, we were on our way.

On Saturday night I got to hold Simone for quite a bit. I was caressing her face and was talking to her and she smiled 4 times. She really enjoys watching the ceiling fan. She makes the sweetest baby sounds when she is on your shoulder.
