I must be living in the Twilight Zone. I just turned on the TV and watched the final half of the 9th inning of the New York Yankees at the Texas Rangers baseball game. The Rangers won!!!! Final Score 6 - 17.
I went out to dinner with Mother and Matthew. Also at the table were Patty Hardesty, Diana Haley, Jeff Barrett. We had alot of fun. Jeff and Diana are co-workers. Patty is a lady friend of Matthew's and a former swim team mate of mine. Before dinner, Jeff and Diana and I went to see a movie . It was a pretty good movie. It is the first one I have seen at a theatre in quite a long time.
Another busy day is ahead of me tomorrow. Hopefully, I will be able to post something more interesting later.
We made alot of progress today in our tasks at SWB. We have literally been all over the building. The emergency engine is on the top floor. We have been trying to trace out color coding and determining where jumpers were going. After we did that we ventured up to the roof of the building. It was scary up there. The only thing between me and end of the roof is an 18 inch wall. I crawled over to it and timidly peeked over the edge. Even when I was standing in the middle of the roof I had a very strong sense of vertigo. The view up there is fantastic. You can do a 360 and see the entire city of Wichita Falls. But don't do that too fast, lest you get dizzy and topple over the edge. We also went into the elevator room. I have now seen the elevators operation from above and below them. My life is just too damned exciting.
I am in Wichita Falls working for a while, as reported in a previous entry...On Monday, I was driving over to mom's house, listening to the radio and an ad came on for The Finishing Touch. I know the owners and I thought I need to bo by there and see what they have to offer. I thought to myself, "wouldn't it be nice if I heard Meredith's ad?" Then I spaced out and low and behold I heard a familiar voice emanating from my dash. I got to hear her ad. It was very exciting for me, I guess you had to be there...Last night we went over to the Family Y to workout. I was going to do some laps in the pool, but they were having open swim and the pool was not set for lap swimming, so I went for the stationary bikes. I had just picked up the current issue of Reader's Digest and read it while I worked out. I think I biked for about 40 minutes and didn't realize how long I had been doing so. When we were leaving a lady took notice of my Danskin official tank top I was wearing and asked me about it. It turns out her name is Sandy Monson and she invited us to bring our bikes to WF next week and she would arrange a ride with some of her people. She is such an up person. She remembered me and talked highly of Jennifer. I tried to talk her out of one of the rocks she has left over from the WF triathlon so I could give it to Jenny. She would have given it to me had the plaque on it not read "women, age 60 and over". Sorry, Jen. Well, I gotta go. I need to get ready for work. One last thing. We went down to the basement of the telephone company yesterday. It is a place that scary movies could be made. Prior to going down there, we were on the 2nd floor and needed to see what direction some cabling was going into the floor. So I helped Jeff pull up one of the floor panels (after he announced there might be giant roaches in there) and sure enough there was something crawling around in there. It was not a roach...it was some furry creature, that I did not stay around to investigate. Jeff did not see it, but he trusts that I did, or so he says he does. So, I was already creeped out when we went down to the basement. One neat thing we did in the basement is go into the elevator shaft. Jeff went and pushed the down button to the only vator that makes it to the basement. So, we got to see it journey to the bottom of the shaft. It is the small things that makes me happy! It was fun. Adios
I just returned from retrieving my company truck. I rode Danny's bicycle to do so. The route I took probably was 5miles in length. I think I chose the hottest part of the day. On my ride I packed a fanny pack to take with me. In it I had my company ID, $10.00, my company keys and my cell phone. It was the latter that caught my attention about half-way into the trip. It rang 1 and 1/2 times then stopped. So I stopped and checked it's caller id. It was an Austin telephone number. So I called it and Elizabeth answered. She was needing Gerry Fergerson's cell phone number. Katheen had borrowed a suit case from Margaret and Gerry and was calling from the cruise ship to get it's combination. Somehow it had gotten locked. I do not think that Kathleen ever visits this site. And I am pretty certain she would not spend the extra bucks on board ship to do so. However, in case she does, the information she needs is someone's wedding date. I wonder whose!...Back in the saddle again, i kept peddling towards my office. Everytime I crossed an intersection I found myself thanking the Americans with Disabilities Act. I really found the ride much smoother because of the ramped sidewalks...Then in the car on the way home I was listening to my favorite AM radio station KAAM. When I tuned in, someone was trying to sing Elvis Presley's "Are You Lonesome Tonight". The singer was tickled and could not stop laughing. It made me laugh. As it turns out it was the king himself.
Well that was frustrating, I finished mowing the front yard and logged back into Blogger to give a progress report on my chore and was almost ready to publish when I got disconnected from the DSL line. I still have to do the backyard, but Jerry is readying the way for me. The front looks great!...I start a job in Wichita Falls this week. I will be working with Jeff Barrett. He is the Dantel expert. Jeff and I did the same type work this time last year in Wichita Falls. The central office for the 69x prefixed numbers converted and we moved the alarms from the old switch to the Dantel Alarm System. It took about 3 weeks. That time I also volunteered (for overtime pay) to work the cut from the old switch to the new. The old switch is noisy, it has alot of relays opening and closing. The new switch is quiet, it kinda hums along. It is kinda neat going from the cacophony of the old switch to the silent tranquility of the new switch. Anyway, I am returning home, careerically speaking. Most of our work will be performed on the 4th floor of the downtown telephone building. This was the site of the old cord board where I had my first job with SWBT...I watched the movie "John Q" last night. It was very good.
Today is my great nephew, Jonathan's, birthday celebration. I am so sorry I am unable to attend. I hope that he will understand. I will get to see him the weekend of August 3, when I travel to Austin for Jennifer's family bridal shower. I am going to search for just the perfect gift for him. Cuddles, Jonathan?...I am waiting to go out and help Jerry with the yard work. I do the mowing and Jerry does the edging, the trimming, the blowing and everything else that goes into making our home the showplace that it is. I am sitting here, listening Jerry prepare the way for my tasks. I am dressed in a ballcap given to me by my sister-in-law, Felicia, a cranberry colored bike short and sport bra, a Dallas Cowboy tank, teal green Keds. Gotta go, Jerry just asked: "you ready?"
I have been having problems publishing so I have not created any new posts since July 12. I hope I can remember all I wanted to say...I completed the Wichita Falls Runners Club 7th Annual Triathlon. My time was 2h 14m 36s. The most important part of the preceding is the word "completed". I feel very proud of that fact. Also, I am sporting a brand new butterfly toe ring that was presented to me by my fellow triathlete and daughter, Jennifer. The official trophy from the WFRC was a rock with a brass engraved plaque. Alas, my performance did not qualify me to receive one. I will treasure my toe ring forever...Jenny's time was 1h 41m 33s. Sadly, she did not receive a rock either. She also bought herself a toe-ring...My co-worker, J, was in a car accident yesterday. A big black pickup truck hit the car behind J, which hit J, causing J to hit the car in front of him. He is able to drive his vehicle with damage to both front and back bumpers...I have so many other profound things to say, but I have forgotten what they were. Bummer!
I just did a 1.5 mile walk-run plus warm-ups in 23 minutes. I think that this is about the time of day I will be doing the walk-run portion of the triathlon and I wanted to see what it was going to be like. I think I will be ok. I have fretted over this part of the event that it is possible I have neglected the other 2 legs too much. I hope not, because if this is true, I may not get to the walk-run. We will know this time tomorrow.
Joy! I spoke with Jenny tonight and she informed me that I need not "train" too hard for this weeks triathlon. Thank God! I feel that I will be able to complete the course. That is my only goal for the triathlon. I am not going to try to win anything. It is a good thing, because my training schedule has been severely upset by work. Yesterday, I worked 15 hours. I was so tired and still am feeling a bit spent...The preceding brings up an excellent point. I am sleepy. Goodnight!
I am in Kansas and it is truly beautiful here. I am so glad my brother, Pat, has found his Heaven on Earth...Some of the things we have done includes: going to Ft Leavenworth where I promised one of the Post's gate guards I would send him a slightly used Dallas Cowboy T-shirt. He noticed we were Texans and he mentioned he would love to have one. So, I obtained his mailing address and I am going to mail a t-shirt from my closet. Heaven knows I can use the space vacated by one less t-shirt...While we were on the fort we also drove by the National Cemetary there. It is quite impressive. My sister-in-law mentioned that there were German prisoners of war buried there and their deceased dates were all the same. We speculated how that might have happened and tried to find the graves, but were unable to locate them...Today, we visited the Amelia Earhart Museum in Atchison. She really was quite a pretty woman. She had a beautiful home overlooking the Missouri River...Pat has invested in a very impressive telescope. We have been outside this evening trying to view some of the night sky's sights. His telescope has GPS and a motor that keeps it in line with the earth's rotation. It is all very amazing...Since I have been here I have done 2 3.6mile run/walks. I am still trying to get in shape for the triathlon in which I will be participating next Saturday. On my first run; a deer crossed our path, we saw a black snake and a little red fox. It is so nice here,, that I feel that I would enjoy going every day for a run of some sort. It is after midnight. The Houston group is leaving early tomorrow morning, I am sleeping on the couch in the family room and I know that sleep will be cut very short because of their early departure. So, I am off to never-never land....
Jenny has a solution to her wedding woes. You can read all about it here. It seems that all is going to work out very well...Also, check out who Meredith partied with all night long by reading her website. As you can see I do not have alot to say. That is why I am directing you to the sites of my offspring. I would include Danny's (oops, I just did), but his is somewhat incomplete. He has been too busy to fix it...I am trying to get fit for the triathlon in which I will be participating on July 13 in Wichita Falls. It includes a 300M swim, 15mi bike ride, and a 5K run/walk. I feel fairly confident about the swim and bike. It is the run/walk that I feel is going to get me. I will probably be doing alot more walking than running. Also, it is the last of the 3 events. I will be worn out by the time I get to the walk/run. Someone, anyone, hell everyone!!! Please pray for me!
