First and foremost, I must apologise to all my faithful readers for not being faithful myself to my promise to post something new to my blog. I have a good reason. I know, you will call it an excuse, and I am sure you want no excuses from me, but here goes; the I have not posted daily is because I have been working out of town. It is very difficult to post from the laptop that I use while out of town. I keep making typing mistakes. I get frustrated and abandon my post. Hopefully, I can make up for it during the weekends.
I have three very exciting things to report today. I am not sure I can even rank them. So, I will start with this one. I met a very famous person today. Charlie Waters is my all time favorite Dallas Cowboy football player. Besides being gorgeous, and yes 30 years later he is still a very beautiful specimen of a man, he seems to be a genuinely nice person. I went to a grand opening of a new store. While there one of the cashiers asked if I was going to be there for the autograph signing by CW. I was not sure, but decided to come back and was so glad I did. I got in line for the autograph. I noticed that he was taking his time with each of his fans. He allowed pictures and as many autographs as a person wanted. I got two, a color picture that he provided and a small football that I purchased. When, at last it was my turn for autographs, I asked if I could see his ring. He said, "sure" and took it off and handed it to me! Also, he signed all the pictures before me in silver ink. When he signed mine he changed to gold. Do you think that meant something? My fantasies are running rampant.
Another thing I did was purchase a bicycle, a road bike. I bought the Ironhorse cyclone. I am very excited about it. The people at Galyans were very helpful and the bike comes with lifetime servicing and maintenance.
Another highlight of my day, was when I logged onto my website and read the comments of my niece, Elizabeth. Thanks for being so sweet to me. I love reading comments and you are very faithful to posting them. Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!
I am being lazy today. I went to the same site that offers the "What Muppet are you quiz?" and took the following:

PhoenixSpirit001I am being very lazy today. So, what else is new? Anyway, I went to the site that offered the which muppet are you and took the following: User ID: JHAST

What a gorgeous day we are having here in Arlington. I took my truck back and rode the bicycle home and extended my ride by about 3 miles. When I first woke up, the outside temperature gauge said it was 67' out. This isn't August in Texas weather. I am loving it.
We are going to a end of summer party at some friends house tomorrow. We have been invited by them so many times before now and we are finally going to be able to go to one. They are Bonnie and Wayne Hardy. I need to call them and ask them what we should bring. Maybe, I will email them.
We are finished in Wichita Falls. Longview is next to cut to a new switch, so we will be reporting there on Tuesday.
Jenny and Stepan are coming into town this weekend. There will be the first fitting for her wedding dress. Stepan's aunt, who just arrived from Prague is making the dress. She is very accomplished in this area, as will be evidenced to all who attend the wedding.
Jeff and I were looking for a history of the muppets google and found this post. It is funny. I insisted that the muppets debuted on Sesame Street. I am not sure what Jeff's opinion of this is. Maybe, he will speak up, soon.
Jeff took the and here are his results:

There seems to be some confusion about the preceding post as evidenced by the comments to same. I am going to try to clear up that confusion:
Normally, when I am working in town, I drive my personal vehicle to the company lot and retreave my company vehicle. However, when I am working out of town, Jerry takes me to pick up my company truck the night before I am to depart. This way my car is safe and sound in the garage. When I get home on Thursday night, I can return my truck to the lot and have Jerry pick me up or I can return it myself on friday morning and load the bicyle in the back and ride the bike home. I like to do the latter, because it is easier to unload all my personal stuff from the truck vs transferring it all to Jerry's truck. Also, I have the added benefit of completing a 5 mile bike ride.
Am I the only person in the family getting bogus emails from family members that include downloadable files? I am certain that these files includes viruses. I learned that the hard way when I downloaded a file that looked to be sent by Patrick. When I could not open it, I called Pat and he informed me he had not sent me any downloadable files. So, now I have the Klez Virus on my computer. I get emails from family (today's included email from Kathleen, Daniel and Theresa). I checked the details of the email (a feature offered by AOL) and both Danny's and Kathleen's had a return path of Felicia's email address. In the past when I have checked the details the return path sometimes is Felicia, Tim or John Linger. I wish that some computer savvy person would investigate this problem and find the culprit.
Stepan helped me today install the Norton software on my computer that I am hoping will rid my computer of that pesky pest. I will report later on the success of tonights install. I am on my way out of town in the am so I will post something new on Thursday or Friday.
I am trying to find a bicycle. The last time I purchased one was in the 80's. I paid $150 and it served me well. Now it seems that a road bike price starts at $600. Anyway, I was searching some sites that offer better deals, for a bike and came across this item. It made me chuckle. However, I decided, after giving it some thought that it was not such a bad idea. What do you think?
I did not take a shower yesterday. I was going to after I returned my company truck and rode the bike home. I got side-tracked while ordering our credit reports online. By the time I finished, it was too hot to ride the bike home. So, I did some housework instead and Jerry picked me up at the company parking lot on his way home from work. Normally, I do not take a shower in the PM. Yesterday was a pretty normal day. So, I got up today, ate breakfast, mowed the backyard and finally I took a shower. It seems the more you need a shower the better it feels. Todays felt wonderful. I may skip more days of bathing!

I watched two movies this weekend that I really did enjoy. They are Dragonfly with Kevin Costner and The Majestic with Jim Carrey. I am thinking that one of the reasons I liked these movies so much is because of lowered expectations. I am not a big Jim Carrey fan, in fact I am not even sure if I am spelling his name correctly, I did like him in this movie better than any other movie in which he starred. Anyway, if you are planning on renting these movies on my say so be sure to lower your expectations before watching them.
Danny is in town til the 30th. He has to be happy to be spending time at his own home.
I am on the lookout for a road bike. I think that Meredith and Kathleen are both buying new ones. Meredith for sure this weekend and Kathleen very very soon. Kathleen called me to pressure me into signing up for the triathlon in Katy Tx. It seems that most of the Houston folks are participating in it. I am going to try to find a new bike or a really good used one before that time.
A new feature of my postings will be a question of the moment. I cannot promise that one will be posted each and every day. So, you will need to be happy with the ? of the moment. Today's question is:
Question: What's the measure of each angle of an equilateral octagon?
I will try to post the answer, or verify the correct answer within 7 calendar days.
Recently, three of my coworkers were in a discussion about one of the SW Bell buildings in downtown Dallas that houses the Riverside Central Office. Greg and Jeff were discussing about how the building had been moved 24' to allow room for the widening of a street. Pam, who was listening, claimed no way could a building of that size be moved. Evidently, Pam did not realize that at the time the building was only 4 stories tall. So she bet that they did not know what they were talking about. So that she could win her bet she began researching the issue. She wrote to a person at the Dallas Public Library and received the following letter:
Based on the information from this latest email, I went back and did some
research in the city directories for the early twentieth century. I was
never able to find a "Riverside Central Telephone office" in any directory
at the Akard address you mentioned.
However, Southwestern Telegraph & Telephone (SW Bell) had its office
building at Jackson and S. Akard, although the street address was not 308 S.
Akard. In looking at information about SW Bell and its buildings, I came
across an article in the Dallas Morning News, December 23, 1928 edition
which talked about Bell's new headquarters at Wood and Akard Streets. The
article also mentioned that the company's original building was to be moved
24 feet to allow for the street to be widened. The paragraphs read as
follows:
"The north and south line on the west, or front of the building, is
even with the fronts of the Federal Reserve Building and the Baker Hotel.
This leaves only the old Telephone Building at the corner of Jackson and
Akard streets out of line for the widening program. In order to permit of
this street improvement at an early date, the telephone company has agreed
to move this four-story brick building back twenty-four feet and place it in
a line with the administration building. This will be perhaps the most
important building moving job ever undertaken in Texas. The company will
not wait for condemnation proceedings and damages to be assessed by legal
process, but will do this job at its own expense -- approximately $100,000."
"The moving will be of particular interest as the operation of the
equipment and the work of the employees will not be disturbed for an instant
while the job is in progress. To move the building without interfering with
the telephone system will be an important engineering achievement. Many
special arrangements will be required not necessary in connection with
moving an empty building."
"The building faces on Jackson street with a frontage of
seventy-four feet and extends back seventy-four feet on Akard street. Until
such time as the city proceeds with the widening of Akard street the present
curb line will be maintained and the space between it and the sidewalk along
the two telephone buildings will be sodded. Actual work in connection with
the job will start about May,1929, and will probably be completed in
August."
You may review this and other Morning News articles on microfilm at the
Central Library on the 7th floor any day the library is open. I hope this
information will be of some help to you. Please let me know if you have
additional questions.
Needless to say, Pam lost her bet. Greg had seen pictures of the project while attending a class before he became employed with SWB.
The part of the article that intrigued me the most was this:The moving will be of particular interest as the operation of the
equipment and the work of the employees will not be disturbed for an instant
while the job is in progress.
I woke up this morning and watched one of the movies I had rented yesterday. I really enjoyed it. It is not for everyone though. I really love New York, so it has alot of eye appeal to me.
It is thundering and probably lightning (although I am seeing no flashes of light, just hearing the thunder). It has been overcast today. It is really nice. It should make for a very cool day. We are supposed to have a cool front this weekend. I thought it was arriving tomorrow. It was nice mowing the yard this morning. I do not think I even broke a sweat.
OK! So I am a bad girl. I did not get ready in time to go to church. Jennifer, Stepan, Meredith, Ron and Hanka have all gone to Mass. They promised to pray for me. I hope they do.
I have been productive while I have had time to myself. One of the things I have been trying is to bribe Homer into liking me. I got a doggie biscuit for him and he would not get close enough to me to even sniff it. He did follow me around the house, at a safe distance. He watched while I loaded the dishwasher and swept the kitchen floor. When I moved to the bathroom to shower and get ready for the day, he came and sat just inside the door of the bedroom next to the bathroom. One day he will like and trust me---I just know he will.
I will probably begin my journey north at about 2PM today. I have to get ready to return to Wichita Falls. I will be happy to spend some quality time at my own house. It seems that I have been so busy lately. I am feeling a little of Kathleen,s pain. She is always "just so busy". Speaking of Kathleen, she is trying to convince me to do another triathlon in Katy Texas on September 15. Maybe...
We went to see Guy last night and had a wonderful time. This is the second time I have seen him. The first time was in a dance hall and I have to admit, it was easier to appreciate his talent last night. Except of course when the trashy girls got right in front of us and started dancing and whatever else they were trying to do. It was like a contest for them to be a human sacrifice and they were offering themselves up to the Guy god. He, thankfully, was having none of it. I guess he sees this type of behavior often. I think he was more impressed with me and my two beautiful daughters. We had a wonderful time.
