The next time you ask our mother what she wants for her birthday, Christmas or Mother's Day and she replies; "nothing", do not believe her. She has told everyone in the family this past few days that she received a birthday gift from all her children but two. Of course one of them was Patrick, and then she says; "guess who the other one is". I think she is trying to put me on a guilt trip. I keep thinking about all the times she said she wanted nothing and now I am thinking what else has she been lying about! I know she lied about labor pains. She said it didn't hurt. (while labor pains do hurt, and it hurts alot, all memory of the hurt fades completely when you first see that beautiful bundle of joy). Meanwhile, back to the topic at hand...I finally give mother what she wanted for her birthday and she doesn't seem too happy with it. Then I remember some of the gifts I purchased for her and she was delighted at receiving them. In the future, no matter how many times she tells me she wants nothing she is not getting it!!!
It is funny how that works out, isn't it? One day, you are down in the dumps, the next you're not. One of the things that helped me get back to my old happy self is I finished a sewing project I had started about 4 months ago and had to abandon because my sewing maching conked out on me. It is a short set made of chenille. I got the idea in Hawaii. They were wanting $120 for similiar short sets and I thought ridiculous; I'll make one. So mine cost about $30 for pattern, material and notions.
Ride to Houston
Mother and I drove to Houston yesterday to spend Thanksgiving at Margaret's house. We were in the pickup truck. It rained most of the way. I worried that our stuff was going to get all wet and decided that if that was the case a shopping spree in Houston was in order to replace my ruined wet clothing. However, before we departed Arlington, I had secured my luggage in a plastic chest that was purchased for just such an event and placed mother's in a 55 gallon plastic leaf bag. Nothing got wet, so today I am going shopping to celebrate the occasion.
Gerry needs the computer, gotta go.
I am not sure why, but I have been feeling a bit low lately. Last week, as I was moving my stuff from the company truck to my car I hit the car door and jambed my head into my body. When this happened I felt a release of some type of fluid into my neck and spine area. I liken it to an adrenalin rush---only it was not adrenalin. Anyway, I mentioned this to Dr. Pedersen and he fixed me up on friday morning. I am going back on Tuesday for another adjustment. Hopefully, I will be my old cheery self for the folks in Houston by Thanksgiving. Another thing, I have not been sleeping very well lately. I wake up in the middle of the night and some of the time I cannot get back to sleep. It is so frustrating. I need to exert myself physically so that I can get a good night's sleep. I have been reading a book and it is pretty good. So that is what I do when I wake up; read.
Quiz
Jennifer has a link to some geography quizes on her website. I took the USA quiz and scored 118 out of 150 pts the other day. Tonight, I took the European quiz and scored 61 out of 114 pts. I then took the World quiz and scored a perfect 33 pts out of a possible 33 pts. It was fun.
My son-in-law posted the November 4 NYC pictures on his website. You can view them by double clicking here. Jenny and Meredith turned out very pretty in all the shots in which they appeared. However, the real star of these pics seems to be a little yorkshire terrier named Mona. She was very sweet. Additionally, there is a picture of a very beautiful Russian Blue cat. The cat's name escapes me. She was not very friendly. We had a great time that weekend.
Well, maybe next year we can sing that fight song again. Yesterday, at Dragon Stadium in Southlake Texas, I was present for the spanking our Coyotes took at the hands of the Denton High School Broncos. When Matthew, Patty and I left about 2 minutes shy of the final second, the score was 35-7. I do take consolation in the fact that we have a better band than they do. On a more sportsman like note; I do wish the Broncos well. They have a very good team and I hope they take the State title this year. After the game the three of us went in search of a restaurant. I took the lead and turned into a parking lot that offered three choices: IHOP, Red Lobster and Kirby's Steakhouse. We chose the latter and had a very nice meal. It was kinda pricey, but worth every penny spent.
Celebrity
I spoke with Meredith today. She told me that she and the rest of the TITC fold were interviewed for an article that will appear in the Fort Worth Star Telegram next Sunday, Northeast Tarrant County edition. I cannot wait to see it.
I may have used one of my nine lives today at work. J took off early today and readied some power poles for removal so that I would have something to do working alone. By readied, I mean he disconnected the alternating current from them. So, he left the job site and I went about removing the poles. I had to pry them open and unscrew the do-hickey at the top that holds the power leads in the pole. I also unscrewed the bracket which held the pole in place. I had successfully removed one of the three poles to be removed and was working on the second pole. I had just unscrewed the pole's mounting bracket and began my descent from the top of the ladder. I kinda lost my balance and tried to right myself on the pole that I had just loosened. I was going down! I thought I was a goner. Then the amazing thing happened; I was able to right myself. I think, somehow some being was watching over me and helped me. Angel of God, my quardian dear---thanks!
Jennifer Riha
Jennifer turns 31 tomorrow, November 13. She said she is going to see Guy Forsythe. He is her 2nd most favorite male in the whole world...well maybe he does also finish after her dad and brother. He is definitely in her top 5 males. Right Jenny?
Tonight on my way home from work, I had the extreme pleasure of traveling in a westerly direction. This afforded me a view to the most profoundly beautiful sunset that I have ever seen. It was truly amazing. I wish I had my camera with me, I would have tried to capture it on film. Alas, my camera is in the shop and will not be ready for 3 weeks. So, I will have to rely on my failing memory, to recall just how pretty the sunset was tonight.
Computer problems
Is it a conspiracy? I do not know. I have had a multitude of problems on my computer tonight. I keep getting an error message that says the resources are low and one by one a request to close each and everyone of the programs I have running. I have added memory and a new printer recently. I did not defrag or run scan disk when I did this. My brother, Matthew, told me when you add new stuff or take off old stuff you should perform these two functions. So, in this order, I performed a disk clean-up, a disk defragmentation, and a scan disk. Things are running a bit more smoothly. However, when I did get back on the internet, I received a pop up ad asking me if I was experiencing computer problems and asking me to purchase, for $29.95, some software that would solve all my poor computer resource problems. Is it possible that this company was able to make my computer act poorly just so they could sell me their wares? And another thing! Do the anti-virus software developers send out all these viruses, so we will buy their anti-virus software? I think, that when I die, these will be some of the questions I pose to Saint Peter when I meet him at the pearly gates. Of course, the first question I pose will be: "Can I come in?"
Another big important thing I want to say. Happy Birthday Danny! He turned 27 on Monday, November 4.
This is going to be a bit disjointed. I have created a new album at webshots and want to include the link to it here. It includes pictures from the anniversary luncheon that I shared with 2 of my co-workers, Jackie Williams (35 years) and Al Smith (25years). I was celebrating 30 years employment with SWB. I did this first because I copied the link and wanted to get it pasted before I needed that particular function elsewhere.
Sunday I left on a jet plane for NYC. The purpose of this trip was to see Meredith's new show. It is a project that she and her partners from Tex in the City have put together. It was wonderful. They even got mentioned in Liz Smith's New York Post, Sunday, November 3 edition column. Jennifer is the person responsible for my attending this. She text paged me on thursday to inform me she had gotten air fare via priceline.com and was going to see the show. She invited me to join her. I called her, she found me an even better fare and the rest is history. Meredith was wonderful, as was the entire cast. Meredith's friends, former Texans and others, always do such a superb job of making me feel very welcome and wanted in their company. They are wonderful people and deserve the best that life offers.
Jenny is such a fun traveling companion. We had a great time getting back to Texas, even though our flight was delayed by 3 hours. United Airlines did a wonderful job of accomodating all of our requests. All the people we dealt with at UA, were very courteous and seemed as if they really enjoyed doing the work they did.
I am so busy. It seems I never have time to log entrys here. Plus, my life is fairly boring.
I did successfully install the memory. It is making things work alot smoother here. I also installed the new printer. I hope the third one is the charm. We had some difficulties with the very first printer we bought, with the Acer computer and nothing but problems plagued us with the Canon.
Today, I celebrate 32 years of motherhood. I spoke with Meredith earlier today and told her I would be traveling to NYC on Sunday to see her in her show.. I did not get to see Monica and Hillary. I feel badly for that. I am really looking forward to seeing the show.
