Another Chair Covered

DSC00347.JPG

I have covered the 2nd of the six chairs that are part of my dining room set. Actually, four of the original chairs that came with the set, did not stand well to the trials of the Lucio clan. They were trashed years ago. My sister-in-law, Felicia sold me four of her chairs because she was replacing them. The wood, which is teak, matched the wood of my set perfectly. BTW, the one on the right is the newly covered chair.

thanks for the support

I want to thank those who responded to my request to vote for Meredith's entry into the meow mix contest. As evidenced by this entry she did not win the contest. However, she is a winner in that she tried and provided us with a glimpse of her amazing talent.

Been A While

Last Wednesday, I went to the Carter Blood Donor office in Arlington to make a donation. I spent about 15 minutes filling out the paper work required by whomever. When the paper work was completed I was called into a little room where I am asked more questions (like "have I ever paid anyone to have sex with me? and have I had sex with anyone who has paid for sex?), my blood pressure is checked, temperature taken and iron count is checked. It is on this last item that I failed. The minimum reading to pass is 12.5, my reading was 11.6. So, now I will have to answer yes to the question; "have you ever been refused for blood donation?" I went back on Saturday, when my blood count was 13.6. So I donated a pint then.

Thursday, I attended the 2nd installment of Casa Manana's Summer Musicals at the Bass Hall. It was Jesus Christ Superstar. I have seen the movie, but this is my first time for the live performance. The guy who played Jesus was amazing. I enjoyed it thoroughly, as did Dianna and her roommate who I conned into attending the series with me. One thing of note: the lady who had seats to our left began crying about the time Judas betrayed Jesus in the Garden and did not stop crying til the final scene and the bows were taken. We even got an encore, she left before the encore. Do you think she didn't realize what was about to happen?

tri'g agin

September 7 is the date of the Cinco Ranch Triathlon. I was checking the www to see about signing up for that triathlon. Last year I participated in the Annie Oakleys. Reading their site I see that the Annie Oakleys is for women 150+ pounds in weight. Fortunately, my current weight precludes me from registering in the Annie Oakleys. So, I searched through the other categories. There are the age division categories and then there is the invitational category. The invitational is for those triathletes that either won in their age division or placed in the overall of any other 2003 tri. It dawns on me that my performance in the WF triathlon qualifies me for the invitational. I wonder if they will ask how many participants were in my division. Anyway, go to sign up and register if you are going to do so. The race is limited to 1000 individuals and 20 (?) relay teams.

Peeves

Do you have any pet peeves? I sure have one. I experience it when I am sitting in traffic and also when I am trying to go to sleep for the night. This really irritates the hell out of me. So much so that I want revenge against the perpetrators of this offense. The offense? It is bass. Bass so loud that it rattles my house windows at night when I am trying to fall asleep. Bass so loud that, even though I have my radio on, windows up, air conditioning running it intrudes and overpowers whatever I am trying to enjoy within the confines of my car. I use to have a CB radio that featured a public address speaker. I wish I had that today. I would broadcast (battle) my most obnoxious music possible and try to demonstrate to some of those who force their sounds on me, just how obnoxious they are. Do you have any pet peeves? If so, I welcome you to utilize the comment section of this site to vent. Venting helps. It sure helped me

Award Winning Triathletes

Jenny and I competed in the YMCA Wichita Falls Runners club triathlon on Saturday. We both placed in our age division. I took 1st place in females aged 50-59 and she won 3rd place in females aged 30-34. I have told several people of our accomplishments. All, with one exception, asked the same question; "How many people were in your divisions?" I wonder why that question is being asked. Are my and Jen's abilities as triathletes doubtful to these people? So what if I carbo load on Smirnoff Ice and Jack Daniels; that does not mean that I am not a good competitor. In actuality, I never considered myself a competitor til I won the trophy, instead I thought of myself as a participant. Also, when my name was called for the 1st place trophy, I questioned the calculations of the race officials. It was thrilling to have my name called. Now I and Jen are proud owners of concrete trophies with a bronze plaque on it that is in the shape of Texas. We will both treasure our trophies for a long time. I finished the course with a time of 2h 5m. Jennifer finished in 1h 46m.

Great C&W radio station

When I am in Houston I always have my radio dial set to FM 97.1. It is a country/western style station and they play alot of the legends. In fact they are called the country legends station. Recently, I decided to see if I could listen online. So, I googled and found the link to the station's site and sure enough there was a link to listen live. I am including the link here. Try it, I know you'll like it.

Fun on the 4th

DSC00488.JPG
Mother and I went to the Ballpark in Arlington to watch the fireworks display. We got there found a lot that had a vew openings and waited for the game to end and the fireworks to begin. We listened to the game while we waited. The Rangers won it with a score of 8-3. We were so surprised when the fireworks began. We were about 100 yards away from where they were shooting them. We reclined our seats and watched through the sunroof of my car. I took a bunch of pictures and have posted some on my webshots, The first two pictures are not from the 4th but I wanted to add them somewhere and this seemed as good a place as any. I hope everyone else had as nice a 4th as I did.

I cried all over again upon watching this movie. It is a video of Jackie and Corby's wedding and reception.

Guess who is coming to visit me!

DSC00229.JPG

This is a picture I took of our mother while we were visiting at Roger Einhaus's. She is coming to visit this weekend. She called and asked if she could visit while Matthew and Patty spent the 4th in Tyler, Tx. Mother is always a welcome guest. Anyway, I fell asleep early last night watching TV. A very loud and annoying ringing awoke me from my slumber. It was mother saying she had changed her mind and would stay home. I was so sleepy, I could not think of a very good argument to get her to change her mind. So today the first thing I thought about was what could I say to get mom to change her mind. Jerry and I are going to one of Jerry's co-workers for a bit on the 4th. His partner is picking us up. He drives very fast and I am not too keen on riding with him. So, we had already told him that I would be taking my own car since mom would be here. When I called and told her I needed her for this reason, her motherly instinct must have kicked in because she said she would get ready and come. What a wonderful 4th of July I will have this year.
