Today would have been daddy's 88th birthday. Although, I normally do not think of him on his birthday, if the date is uttered aloud I remember that this was his birthday. This happened today, in the company car to the Dallas office. Someone asked the date, I used my mathmatical abilites and remembered that yesterday was the 28th, added one and said it is September 29. I even said to my two co-workers, hey this is my dad's birthday.
I do, however, think of him every April 22--his death day.
The last tri of the year? Maybe. Sunday several of us are participating in the Seaworld Triathlon in San Antonio Texas. From the family are Kathleen, Felicia, Jennifer and I. Stepan and Catherine will be are athletic supporters (he-he). Since this is the 4th weekend in a row away from home for me, I am resenting (for lack of a better word) this triathlon. I have so much to do at home. The ridiculous commute to work everyday between Aug 25 and Sept 25 did not help matters at all. However, that is now past...because my newly assigned 2nd line manager agreed to move those of us that live in Fort Worth back to report in Fort Worth instead of far east Dallas. I know that some of my readers will know of what I am speaking. Well, I gotta go get ready to tri.

I made dinner tonight after working a 10 hour day which does not include my 2 hour commute and my hour lunch. One of the things I made was dirty mashed potatoes. They were delicious. Certainly, it saved the step of peeling the potatoes. Yes I was being somewhat lazy. But I thought; I love eating the skins of baked potatoes, why not try dirty mashed pots? When I told Jerry what I was making he said, please do not call them that. It sounds disgusting. Which brings me to the other part of the meal. I also made hamburger soup. I remember one time Kathleen and I were going to make dinner for Barry and my current boyfriend Mike Kerkvliet. We remembered how much we loved hamburger soup when mother fixed it in our youth. Well, they refused to eat something called hamburger soup. So we said ok, we will fix something else. What we did is fix hamburger soup, but called it something else. Shakespear certainly knew what he was talking about when he wrote that "Romeo, Romeo" speech from Romeo & Juliet. They(Mike & Barry) loved it and so did Jerry. In fact, tonight Jerry had already eaten and was going to eat a very small portion of my effort. He went back for thirds.
I am in Wichita Falls celebrating with our mother her 88th birthday. Kathleen and Matthew (of course) are here as well. It is 9:10PM on Friday night and already we have laughed and laughed and laughed.
Earlier, mother received a telephone call. I heard her say; "who is this?" pause "fine" and then she hung up. It was a telephone solicitor. So I suggested the next time she gets a call from a solicitor and they ask her how she is doing she should tell them she is having a problem with loose stools. This brought to mind a memory of the 9th street house and the plumbing problems that occurred there. Mother and Matthew decided to conduct a very scientific experiment on the plumbing at the property. The test included mom going up to the garage apartment (my residence at the time) and flush the toilet. Matthew was suppose to observe the toilet in the house to see if it was affected by the flush. So, mom goes up to the apartment, calls Matthew and here is how the call goes:
called: "hello"
Mother: "I'm going to flush the toilet and I will be right down."
called: "What?"
Mother repeats: "I'm going to flush the toilet and I will be right down."
Needless to say, mother had dialed a wrong number.
During the course of the plumbing problems a video was made of the main house toilet overflowing. It is a classic for our family. Tonight, Matthew wondered aloud, I wonder what happened to that video. The very next thing out of mother's mouth is; "the video of the overflowing toilet is out in the garage."
Out to the garage the three of us went. We did not find the toilet video, but I did find videos of Meredith and Jennifer when they were very small children. It is my hope that years and years in the hot/freezing garage did not damage them and that I can have them transferred to DVD.
There will be more reports from this weekend...so stay tuned.
This is a picture I found of me. I had a comment posted to a blog entry I had made regarding the triathlon. The person commenting said he had taken some pictures at the triathlon and invited me to see if there were any shots of me. The link to his site is here. I recognized one other person. It was the lady who racked her bike next to mine that Kathleen knew.
Yesterday I was drinking coffee with my co-worker, Jeff, and we began discussing coffees. I asked him if he ever heard of the most expensive coffee in the world. When I told him about how it is processed he did not believe me. So, when we returned to the office I googled for it. This coffee is $75 per quarter pound.
In the newspaper today is a story about 12 amateur astronomers that found the best location for an observatory within 300 miles of Dallas/Fort Worth and built a very impressive telescope. You can see all about it at this site. Here is the link to the story in the Fort Worth Star Telegram that prompted this entry.
