We, the Karls, are always looking for a freebie. Last weekend while Jennifer, Magda, Meredith and I attended the expo for the Danskin in New Jersey, there was a booth that offered a free pedometer if you allowed one of the two podiatrists do a foot screening. I really didn't want my feet screened, but I did want the meter. So, I waited for my turn with the podiatrist. When I entered, Meredith was just finishing, so she joined me in my screening. I took off my shoes and the Doc took one look at my feet and said; "your feet are perfect!" Finally, something on me is deemed perfect---perfect arch, perfect toes, no bunions. So, my reward was two-fold, I got the meter and the knowledge that at least one part of me is perfect.
We had so much fun in NJ/NY. Meredith did very well in her triathlon. The expo was held at a very nice hotel. Jennifer decided to take Magda on a stroll around the hotel. I joined Meredith in the expo for awhile. About 45 minutes later I called Jen, so I could meet her and Magda. She told me how to get to where she was. I was so surprised to see the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. The weather was beautiful. Jen and I stopped at an ocean front restaurant. I ordered salad and lobster bisque. Jen ordered salad and clam chowder. It was delicious. Magda feasted on the crackers and lemons. It was a huge bonus being so close to the ocean. Neither I nor Jen expected it. In fact, before I got out there, she stopped and asked a couple if it was indeed the Atlantic Ocean.
On the day I returned, Tim and Catherine arrived at my house. They were escaping Hurricane Rita. Felicia flew into DFW the next day from her business trip. We had so much fun. Tim, Felicia, Catherine, Molly and Scarlet, you can visit my house anytime.
Happy Birthday Daddy, where ever you are. Was I the first?
I witnessed a crime today. I had gone to lunch at a convenience store that had microwavable hamburgers (yummy) and as I was paying, the lady behind the counter had her attention focused on a man who was pumping gas into his car. She asked me to wait. So I watched the man as well. At one point he looked into the store and saw both of us watching him. Then another patron came in to pay for his gas and the original man jumped into his car and drove off. The lady behind the counter ran outside and got the license number from the car. She came in saying that she knew she should have insisted on a pre-pay. Hindsight! He got away with almost $38 in gas. She may have been the owner of this little neighborhood store that sells microwavable hamburgers, TCBY yogurt and gasoline. I am not sure. She was certainly angry with herself for allowing the theft to occur. The thief was driving a small economy car, a little red Honda. Wow! $38 to fuel that little car. It made me wonder who was stealing from whom. I decided that the biggest thief is the gas companies that have price gouged their product into record profits. The Honda driver is a thief certainly. The cashier is his victim. But all of us who have to pay the hugely inflated prices to fuel our vehicles are victims of the likes of Exxon, Shell and all the other oil companies that have taken advantage of today's situation.
This morning very early, I headed toward my friend, Tina's house. We had signed on to volunteer at the Dallas Convention Hall, which is now home to a few thousand displaced Louisians. SBC is providing voice mail for three months. Our task was to help each person set up their mailbox and be certain they understood how to use the service. Everyone was very nice. I even got to hold a little 2 month old baby girl. Her name was Jontay and I really think she liked me. I even may have made her smile.
While we were between clients, Tina and I made plans to go to Grapefest in Grapevine. We also coerced our friend Debbie to join us. Tina and Debbie will be my guests tonight. Tina lives in Mesquite and Debbie lives in Celina. I am really looking forward to some girlie time. They are both alot of fun.
