We had a wonderful day. Kathleen, Stepan, Homer and Jerry cheered us on and kept raving about our results. Personally, the swim part was fun. I was a bit apprehensive as our wave approached the shore to enter the water. I made everyone laugh on our wave. We were the last to leave. We were all supposed to be wearing pink swim caps. They ran out of pink swim caps, so I wore a blue one. There were also some green and orange caps in our group. So I commented that we should be called the M&M's wave. I was rewarded with chuckles from all who heard me. We entered the water and it was cold. I did not hesitate though. The rain that had been falling kinda tempered my body to the water temp. Sally Edwards, the Danskin spokesperson, was in the water to encourage us and pump us up as we waited for our ready, set, go! signal. We started. My strategy, which I formulated after I started the swim, was to stay in the inside lane. I saw people swimming really wide and I thought "that isn't too smart". Occasionally, I kicked people. I swam hard, hard, hard. I didn't rest at all. I didn't want to let my team down. Finally, I reached the shore at the swim finish. I was helped out of the water and ran through the chute to the transition area so I could give Elizabeth our timing chip and she could start her portion of the race. Courtney and I kept each other company while we waited for Elizabeth. When Elizabeth came in, she jumped off her bike and ran to us so Courtney could begin the run. Courtney removed the chip from Elizabeth and put it on and began the final phaze of the race. Elizabeth and I went to the finish line to wait for our team to complete the race. It was very satisfying when a short while later we saw Courtney making her way through the finish line. We has so much fun. I am considering doing it next year by myself.
Posted by Rita at June 9, 2002 09:19 PMI'm so proud of you, too!....Did you notice that your team was ranked in the top 10 of your class?....That is so cool!
Posted by: Jfer at June 9, 2002 11:17 PMI thought of you all weekend - am happy that all of you had a successful and, apparently, delightful experience.
Posted by: Leah at June 10, 2002 10:17 AMThere is no doubt in my mind, given the way you trained for this triathlon and how you did in the actual event, that you could do this by yourself next year. You can do it!
Posted by: Elizabeth at June 10, 2002 06:08 PMWay to go, girls!
